How to check solenoid on ezgo golf cart
If you suspect a solenoid issue with your EZGO golf cart, here’s how you can test it:
Disconnect the Battery: Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable from the battery.
Remove Leads: Remove all leads from the solenoid terminal studs. You don’t need to remove the solenoid from the frame.
Use an Ohmmeter: Connect an ohmmeter (calibrated on the Rx1 scale) to the two large terminal studs next to each other. The ohmmeter should indicate no continuity if there are only two large terminal studs. If you have four large terminal studs, one pair will have continuity, and the other pair won’t. When energized, the readings will be reversed1.
Apply Voltage: Using jumper cables, attach the correct battery voltage (6 volts for a 6-volt solenoid, 36 volts for a 36-volt solenoid) to the two small solenoid studs (polarity doesn’t matter). You should hear a click as the solenoid engages, and the ohmmeter should indicate continuity on the two large terminals. This confirms that the solenoid is functioning as a high-amperage switch1.
Replace if Needed: If any other reading is noted during these tests, consider replacing the solenoid.
Remember to reconnect all leads and connect the negative battery cable last. If you encounter any issues, consult a professional for further troubleshooting1. Good luck with your golf cart maintenance!
